As you may know from previous posts, The Full Circle (www.thefullcircle.com) have more UK customer deployments of the new release of Microsoft’s Windows Small Business Server 2011 than any other UK partner, but thus far we’ve only been able to talk about the Standard version of the product until now..

We have two UK deployments of the Standard version of the product and one of the Essentials version, which today became available to download in final release / RTM form.

Redmond Good Morning release for Europe’s Good Evening!

Today at 18:00 BST / 09:00 PST Microsoft made available the final release code evaluation version of Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 2011 Essentials RTM available to download as a trial from TechNet or as full product through the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN).

Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials

(formally Windows Small Business Server Code Name “Aurora”) is ideal as a first server for small businesses, providing a cost-effective and easy-to-use solution to help protect data, organize and access business information from virtually anywhere, support the applications needed to run a business, and quickly connect to online services such as Office 365, hosted e-mail, collaboration and CRM. Windows SBS 2011 Essentials can be used by up to 25 users, requiring no CALs for user access.

"Built on Windows Server 2008 R2, SBS Essentials is an agile new product designed and priced as a solution for businesses that have fewer than 25 users and don’t have a client/server network in place. SBS Essentials gives small business customers an easy way to get their infrastructure in place using our simple-to-deploy server. At the same time, SBS Essentials ensures that business-critical data is regularly and automatically backed up, the health of the network is actively monitored, and users and computer management are easy and straightforward. In addition the comprehensive extensibility built into the product makes it easy to take advantage of a wide variety of cloud services and third-party additions."

The evaluation copy will be valid for up to 180 days, and you fully activate it to a full version with a product key anytime within the evaluation period.

The product will be available through all channels, including Volume Licensing, starting May 1. Many OEMs and System Builders have already started building specific form factors and solutions based on SBS 2011 Essentials which will start becoming available in the market in May.

Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 2011 Essentials is available on Microsoft.com beginning today. Also TechNet and MSDN subscribers will access to the download starting today as well.

PRESS RELEASE

United Kingdom, 18th March 2011 – Full Circle Technology Limited (“The Full Circle”) announced today that three of their existing clients had been part of the pre-launch early adopter trial campaign for Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 2011, which Microsoft announced late yesterday as now generally available.

Reuben Cook, Founder of The Full Circle commented: “As a Microsoft partner who’s a keen early adopter – we were one of two UK partners in the Essential Business Server TAP in 2008-09, and following that the launch of Windows Server 2008 R2 – we are always interested in opportunities to get involved in new product launches.
We are now delighted to announce that we successfully enrolled three of our customers into the pre-launch early adopter program for Windows Small Business Server 2011, which we understand is more than any other UK partner”

Cook added: “We nominated three customers some six months ago, and we were delighted when Microsoft confirmed that all three would take part in the trial. Our first client deployment was for Verona Pharma plc, a London based but globally working drug discovery / life science business that we have provided managed IT services for since 2006 when we built a complete greenfield solution based on SBS 2003 allowing them to grow rapidly with heavy SharePoint use for their genuinely global workforce.”

“We then added Talking Tables, a fast –growing, fun and fresh UK based party and giftware designer and manufacturer. They too needed a short-cut to leading edge technology in order to meet their growth needs and global working.”

Maurice Martin, Director, Server & Cloud Platforms, Microsoft UK added:
“Over the past six months, The Full Circle has participated in the Microsoft Early Adopter Programme for Small Business Server 2011. It has successfully deployed SBS 2011 Standard into two customer environments and, looking forward, it will also be deploying SBS 2011 Essentials, a new cross-premise cloud-facilitated server, into a third customers premises later in the year.”

Cook concluded: “And finally we introduced a South London based Estate Agency, who acknowledged the need to upgrade in order to support the expansion of their business from 2 to 3 sites, and from 15 to 20 staff, which was why we brought them to the Windows Small Business Server early adopter programme – they have been accepted for the Essentials version of the product due to be released in the coming weeks”

As previously posted @ http://blog.thefullcircle.com/2010/10/09/sbs7-uk-eap-3-from-tfc/ we nominated not one, but three customers onto the SBS 7 UK RDP (Rapid Deployment Program), and today we find that all three have been accepted – more than any other UK partner!

As previously mentioned we can’t divulge who they are, but have outlined their profiles below:

1) A small but dominant South London Estate Agency who we supplied their existing SBS 2003 server running on HP ProLiant hardware over 5-years ago and is still running strong!, but the business owner acknowledges the need to upgrade in order to support the expansion of their business to 3-sites, from c.15 to c.20 staff – ideal for “Aurora” which is the business version of “Vail” so expect awesome backup, remote access, and who network management.

2) A fast growing, fun and funky UK based party & giftware designer & manufacturer who had an aging Dell PowerEdge server running SBS 2003 that we ‘rescued’ (made a bad out of the box config good) back in 2006.  We supplied a new HP server several months ago in anticipation of SBS7 (or rather SBS2008 R2 at the time… see http://blog.thefullcircle.com/2010/05/03/sbs-2008-r2-release-date/).  The server is running Hyper-V Server, and have performed a test P2V of their existing SBS 2003 server to test migration to the new server.

3) A London based but globally working drug discovery / life science company that we have provided managed IT services for since 2006 when we built a complete greenfield solution based on SBS 2003 growing rapidly with heavy SharePoint use for their genuinely global workforce.
We installed a new HP server recently, again running Hyper-V R2 to support P2V of existing HP ProLiant ML350 SBS2003 server which we originally supplied and upgraded along the way.
